Industrial Cadets with Costain/Galliford Try

Year 12 Engineering students Matt Tozer, Ed Reynolds, George Field & Elijah Dance from the Sir Frank Whittle Studio School recently became the first of their year group of students to complete the fantastic Industrial Cadets programme ran by Costain/Galliford Try at their Crick Smart Motorway Project Site on the M1.

Helen Nurrish from the Construction Skills Academy co-ordinates the Industrial Cadets scheme which is an industry standard for work placements, graded according to the skills & competencies acquired, with minimum hours set for each level – Bronze (20 hours), Silver (30 hours) or Gold (50 hours).  The scheme Galliford/Costain are running offers students in excess of 50 hours-worth of work experience and is therefore accredited to Gold Standard, with each student receiving a certificate, T shirt and a badge at a ‘ceremony’ organized by the employer at the end of their placement.

Speaking of his placement, Elijah said "It was a really good place to work. The team went to great lengths to support us and introduce us to the world of Civil Engineering.  They were really enthusiastic and keen to help us."

All interested Year 12 Engineering students will have the opportunity to attain invaluable work experience on this project and be fully immersed in a live joint venture between two of the industry leaders -  a fantastic opportunity to gain an insight into Civil Engineering
